It is now official...

The 13th annual San Pancho Music Festival for 2013 will be held Friday through Sunday, February 22 through February 24, 2013, in San Francisco, Nayarit, Mexico.

As in the past years, the event will be traditionally hosted in San Pancho on the last weekend of February. And, as always, because of the gracious contributions of the performing artists, there is no charge to the public.

The Music Festival is celebrating its 13th year in San Pancho. It will feature performing artists from the region of Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, as well as musicians from the United States and Latin America.

The Festival has progressively grown from the original concept of a backyard venue of a local resident in 2001.

The fun will begin at 5:00 pm each day, with performances up until 11:00 pm each night (although it isn't uncommon for artists to continue playing to an enthusiastic late night crowd).

A schedule of performing artists and show times will soon be published as details are worked out.

Andy Crawford - 2011 Music Festival

Andy Crawford

Andy Crawford has been a tremendous asset to the Music Festival for many years.

From the Festival's infancy, Andy has helped organize the event by managing the electronics and sound equipment, including the manning and operation of the sound equipment during the performances.

Andy is also the go-to guy for problem solving the myriad of electrical problems that are inevitable during the preparation and actual operation of such an event.

Professionally Andy plays bass guitar, and commonly joins in with the various groups performing at the Music Festival while also running around performing other duties vital to the smooth operation of the Festival.

As a professional jazz bassist and guitarist in central Illinois, Andy is adjunct faculty in Music at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where he teaches Jazz Bass and Jazz Improvisation.

Beto and Carlos – 2011 Music Festival

Beto and Carlos Gonzalez

Beto and Carlos Gonzalez are a father and son combination that have performed in the San Pancho Music Festival almost from its inception.

Father Beto has instilled his love of music throughout his family, and is often accompanied by his son Carlos.

Together they perform both popular and classical Mexican ballads to the delight of the audience.

Occasionally daughter Carlita will join them on the stage to add to the vocals.

Beto and Carlos Gonzalez are major contributors to the organization of the Music Festival. Together they provide logistical support, coordinate with many of the regional artists, and donate much of their sound equipment and time to the event.

Chas Eller – 2012

Chas Eller is a founding member of the jazz fusion group, Kilimanjaro, whose three CDs have all made it onto the Top Ten of the Jazz Radio Airplay charts in the States.

In addition to tours of the U.S. and Europe with Kilimanjaro, Chas also toured with blues great, Paul Butterfield.

Between those two groups he has performed at some of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world, including The Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), The Newport Jazz Festival, (US), The Montreal Jazz Festival, (Canada), The Roskilde Festival (Denmark), The Utrecht Blues Festival, (Holland) and many more, including a tour of the Soviet Union in 1991.

As a resident of San Pancho, Chas has been instrumental in the organization of the Music Festival. He has been involved in organizing a variety of other music festivals in the Unites States.

In 2011, Chas missed his first San Pancho Music Festival in five years, when his group Kilimanjaro was asked to perform at the Java Jazz Festival, in Jakarta, Indonesia, along with luminaries such as Carlos Santana, and George Benson.

Think Miles meets Enya...

As one of the few trumpet / flugelhorn artists working in ambient terrain, Jeff Oster draws from a rich background of classically trained, jazz tinged horn study, mixed with contemporary electronica and loop based electro-orchestral bed tracks.

He began playing trumpet at the age of eight.

After years of study in classical and jazz he moved to L.A. in 1979 to pursue a career full time in music.

Honing his live performance skills in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe, and Atlantic City, and working the LA club scene for decades, Jeff has developed a presence in live performance that has to be seen (and heard) to be believed.

In 2003, Jeff began to create loop based soundscapes using the computer software program Sonic Acid. Uploading his music to MP3.com, his songs topped the ambient charts for months, with tens of thousands of downloads and streams worldwide.

Jeff soon began working with producer Will Ackerman, Grammy award winning guitarist and founder of Windham Hill Records. Together they have recorded two albums, RELEASED and TRUE. Both albums have been widely voted on by broadcasters worldwide as Album of the Year, both have reached #1 on Echoes, the nationally syndicated NPR radio program.

Jeff’s songs have won Best New Age Song at the 2006 and 2008 Independent Music Awards, and the music continues to receive airplay on XM/Sirius, Music Choice and many other programs worldwide.

Jeff returns to this year's event after playing to the enthusiastic crowds of prior years.

In early 2012 Plaza del Sol was remodeled and its facilities updated. A new stage was completed to enhance the Plaza as an entertainment venue. Public restrooms were modernized, the portico was remodeled, and new landscape installed. The Plaza is now better suited for the ever increasing crowds drawn to the community celebrations and festivals.

The 2013 Music Festival will return to Plaza del Sol for the duration of the 3 day event. After entering San Pancho (San Francisco) from Highway 200, you will see the soccer field on your right, the elementary school on your right and the park on the left, continue straight until you reach the intersection of Calle Mexico. Turn right and follow the road to Plaza del Sol, which will be on your left. Use the perimeter of the Plaza and side streets for parking.
