Vallarta's Protected Area Adds Crocodile Hatchlings and Intensive Care Facilities Isabel Cardenas - Fideicomiso Estero el Salado

El Estero Salado, Puerto Vallarta's environmentally protected area, has added facilities for the management and conservation of the wildlife in the area, including the Estero Crocodiles.

We sadly report that due to unfortunate circumstances, 2 exemplary adult male crocodiles were killed and a limb of a female of the same species was mutilated.

Upon the occurrence of these events, we did not have adequate spaces available for their care and maintenance.

In addressing this issue, the Trust Fund for the Protection of El Estero Salado (Fideicomiso Estero el Salado) made the decision to add facilities where we could treat and contain the damaged specimens.

These facilities consist of a pond to keep a couple of adult crocodiles and a small pond with 2 shelters for 30 hatchlings of the crocodiles.

The facilities were designed especially to keep "Tic Toc" living, whose mobility was limited and, unfortunately, died just days before the facility was completed due to a heart infection.

Estero El Salado, in addition to being a protected Natural Area, has this year achieved and obtained registration as a unit of environmental management with Management Plan for the Species of Crocodile, the NPA, which has been evaluated and authorized by the Dirección General of Wildlife of the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources.

It is a great achievement for the Estero El Salado and Puerto Vallarta, as the destination, through the Trust Estero El Salado, to be equipped with facilities for the management and conservation of endangered animals.

The Cocodrilario El Salado will be open to the public and your visit is free, so everyone can visit it from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (donations are gladly accepted).
