Visit the "Forever Spring" Farmers Market every Saturday

Despite some serious heat and amazing rains, the BBCC remained open this summer. Not only was the summer program a success, but we also managed to keep our Spanish and English classes going which is remarkable given the way Bucerias shuts down during low season.

The highlight of the summer was the amazingly creative and enthusiastic volunteers who materialized seemingly out of nowhere. And, for those of you who know our long-time housekeeper Graciela, you will be happy to know that her daughter, Laura, was a star this summer, shining light on everything she did, including celebration of her first communion, which we all attended.

But fall is here and the BBCC is ready for another lively season. English and Spanish classes are already ongoing. Jorge has been teaching Spanish all summer and is looking forward to a new group of students. Kim Cable, Heather Sandilands and Terry Hutcheon are teaching English.

The "Forever Spring" Farmers Market resumed October 1st and will continue each Saturday (10:00 am - 1:30 pm) until further notice.

We "officially" kicked off the season with a Dia de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead Fiesta November 2nd. November will also include a drama workshop presented by celebrated actor & director, David Lloyd Austin. There's a welcome back party for BBCC teachers and students November 19th.

On December 16th, we will have a Mystery Theater Fundraiser at Los Arroyos. You won’t want to miss this, so mark your calendars now. In December we will also have the Third Annual BBCC Posada and a new Holiday Market (watch for dates and times to be announced shortly).

With the coming of the New Year, we expect a second "crop" of fresh volunteers ready and willing to take on the challenges of teaching English and other classes. Will you be among them? Just this week, Paul (Pablo) Thomas has taken on an adult English class, and by all indicators, is doing a great job and enjoying himself. Bob Ortlieb has said he will return to the classroom this year, as well as veteran English teacher, Mike Simpson. We expect to see Rene Adrian resume his role as Conversation Cafe Facilitator in December or January and are looking for someone to step in for him until he returns. (My but it is nice to have so many men in our teaching stable this year!)

Brus and Jean Westby will be back again this November with their popular Sunday Meditation Class. We expect to see our beloved Reta Ross again this year and rumor has it that Linda Lauer will come in for the Day of the Dead Party. It will be so good to see all these people again.

BBCC will continue to work with Investatours this year in the hope that among the entrepreneurs identified by Investatours we can find potential students and stakeholders. We will be working with a number of Mexican influentials to identify the kind of BBCC programs that are most wanted and needed by the local community.

This season ushers in initiation of the BBCC Homestay for Spanish students. We are very excited about the potential for this program, because it puts money in the pockets of the local families who participate, affords the Spanish student opportunity to practice the language in a real life situation and provides the BBCC with modest revenue.
