The "Mi Amigo Sin Pelo" which translates to "My Friend Without Hair" event will take place on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at the arches of the malecón in downtown Puerto Vallarta.

Citizens can participate actively with contributions and/or the cutting of hair to show support.

For this noble cause, Puerto Vallarta is supporting 19 children with cancer so that they can go to the city of Guadalajara to receive care and treatment.

Everyone can make a difference in the lives of children and young people with cancer and provide some support to their families by participating in the "Mi Amigo Sin Pelo" project, that for the fourth consecutive year supports Canica, the help center for Children with Cancer (el Centro de Apoyo a Niños con Cáncer A.C.) and the the Vallarta Women's Association (la Asociación Femenil Vallartenses).

The aim of the project is raising awareness among the population and creating more support for those suffering from this evil, in addition to raising funds to help more and more children who require help and can continue without any problem with their treatments.

Come to the arches on the Malecon on November 25 for the activities beginning at 3:00 in the afternoon.

We are again asking the general public to participate in this project and become a friend to those "without hair."

Javier Galván, director of Canica (Children with Cancer), revealed that each year in Jalisco more than a thousand children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. "Therefore, with our support projects, our children of Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and other cities in Jalisco can receive the care and attention that they need."

"By not just saying the words 'I'm with you' but by actions that demonstrate solidarity, we can make a difference with the children and their families living with cancer," says Galván. "This is the fourth year that we replicate it here in Vallarta and the Vallarta community's response has been extraordinary. Every year we have had whole families and individuals close to those with cancer who shave their heads as a sign of solidarity."

Galván further noted that as part of this comprehensive project, a program was put into operation on February 15 in adding a dining area to the Hospital of Pediatrics of the Medical Center in Guadalajara, which provides hot, nutritious food to children who receive treatment on an outpatient basis and their families. This is a space that has been needed for a long time and thanks are given to all the citizens that contributed to making it happen.

"We saw a permanent reality when children are hospitalized for long periods of time where the parents did not eat for days and the majority of these parents have no relatives in Guadalajara who could provide support during their stay by bringing a lunch or relieving them from the stress of the situation," Galván added.

Javier Galván also announced that next year, an agreement is planned to be signed that will provide comprehensive palliative care, which relieves not only physical but emotional and spiritual pain of young patients and their loved ones.

Evelia Basáñez, of the Women's Association, pointed out that some of the children with cancer must travel to Gradalajara from Puerto Vallarta up to four or fives a month for treatment. Each donation helps to solve the transportation problem in getting these children to the treatment center.

It is hoped that the population will continue to support this noble cause, bringing in acquaintances, friends and family to raise resources that will serve to improve the living conditions of our children.
