With Halloween just around the corner, it's a perfect time go to a creepy but kid-friendly movie. And, local Puerto Vallarta theaters are currently running two fun and freaky animated options: Frankenweenie and Hotel Transylvania.

Frankenweenie is the latest creation from director Tim Burton, using black and white, 3D stop-motion animation to tell the story of a little boy who plays Frankenstein to revive his dead dog. The movie is classic Burton style: macabre, baroque, lushly visual and witty.

The film is not only very entertaining for kids but will be a favorite for adults with a soft-spot for old Hollywood horror movies and Boris Karloff. Parents should note that there are some scary scenes and animated violence that may not be appropriate for very young or sensitive children.

For younger kids, Hotel Transylvania is an age-appropriate animated creep-fest featuring the tale of a young man who stumbles up on resort hotel for monsters and ghouls, with a love story between our human hero and a half-vampire who looks 18 despite being 100 years older.

Voiced by Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg, and supported by Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, David Spade and Cee-Lo Green, the movie is spooky but not scary and entertaining for the whole family.
