250 Homeless People Living on the Streets of Puerto Vallarta Vive Puerto Vallarta

In Puerto Vallarta there are around 250 people who live on the streets, most of them between 30 and 50 years old.

It is common to see people who knock on the doors asking for gifts, groceries and money, the same thing happens in the streets of the center and the tourist strip, especially where there are foreigners.

As detailed by the city's DIF system, there is currently an official register of 100 people in this situation, but there are at least another 150 who live on the streets, but who are not registered in said register. Of these, only 30 percent of them live in such circumstances due to mental health problems, drug addiction or alcoholism.

The other part lives on the streets for two reasons, the main one is that for many of them it is more comfortable to live than what tourists give them, despite the fact that the business development coordination has detailed that there are around a thousand job vacancies in the port.

The other situation that is common in this sector, are people who come from other states to work, but due to various circumstances they lose their jobs and homes and end up living in those circumstances, some, according to the director of DIF, Roberto Ramos Vázquez, have up to 15 years in the port living on the street, and some family members even think that they are missing or have died.

It should be noted that from January to date the DIF has returned to their place of origin 25 people who lived in this situation on the streets of Vallalta.
