Happy Holidays From SPCA PV to Our Friends and Supporters SPCA de PV

2021 is coming to an end. It´s been - another - tough year for us, as it might have been for lots of you who may have lost loved ones, or jobs or had other challenges, with hurricanes, floods and the still ongoing pandemic.

So, we would like to end the year by counting our blessings and telling you about the good things that have happened since August.

We sent 34 dogs and 5 cats to Canada and the US to their new, loving adoptive homes, and 6 dogs were adopted locally in Puerto Vallarta.

Here are just a few of our furry tail endings:



Spay & Neuter Clinics

We held two big Spay/Neuter clinics. Thank you again to our sponsors, Sandee´s project who co-sponsored several clinics this year, Liberty Benedict and her supporters of the “Dogs for adoption Canada” Facebook group for the three-day clinic in October that got no less than 143 pets fixed, and Gina and Jeff Green who sponsored a big one-day clinic in November that got 61 pets fixed.



A total of 204 dogs and cats are no longer having unwanted litters. That brings our year total to 492 pets fixed for 2021!



We are Back at the Farmers Market



We are back again this year at the Olas Altas Farmers Market in Old town PV with new volunteers and new, fun merchandise!

Every Saturday you can find us there and we have new t-shirt designs for you, Christmas cards and other goodies that make great stocking stuffers, and of course we give information and receive donations.



Updates at the SPCA PV Shelter

The progress around the sanctuary is slow unfortunately, as we were waiting for weeks on the city to send their engineers and experts, and now we are still preparing papers and then waiting for their decision if we get our land back for use that the river took, since officially and according to Mexican law, this part is now a federal zone, which means it is not private property anymore but belongs to the Nation.

The remaining part of the property has been deemed structurally sound, all but the last few meters where it broke off.

What we were able to do in the meantime, is put new fencing around the back part of the remaining shelter that lost it´s fencing -and then some- that was open to the river, and therefore invited burglars. And we also fenced the remaining part of our playgrounds one and two in the front again where the fence had been missing since the flood. We also have water and electricity back up too.



The city started the last week of November with the clean up inside the river bank! They have two big machines working in the river, they will tear down the destroyed last part of our building that´s still hanging on by metal beams to the rest, and use all the rubble to build up the barrier that will put the river back into its old bed on the left side, together with other stones and stuff from the river bed. Hopefully that works.

We will have to figure out how to protect the remaining building fully during the next rainy season from getting washed away too, and that is the tricky - but hopefully not impossible – part, and that will fall on us to pay for too. And of course, if we manage that, we still only have half a shelter, no quarantine area. So, for now we can´t be fully operational, but we are working on it!

Thank you to our volunteers, old and new, who are fostering for us, doing home visit interviews, customs clearing and airport logistics, helping at the Farmer´s market, and the Spay/Neuter clinics and organizing little fundraising events for us. Thanks to our flight angels who are bringing kennels back to PV, and flying our fur babies to their new homes, and everyone else who has contributed in some way to keep us going. We are very grateful, and we couldn't do it without all of you.

We have a lot of work in front of us, and we hope we can keep counting on you in the new year.
