Ralph’s Villa Serenidad, Lomas de Mismaloya

Friday was the day that Amy and I have been looking forward to for almost a month. Amy fired up her Expedition and headed from La Cruz to Conchas Chinas to meet me at 10 am. As I walked to her car the air felt thick and sticky. The sun beat down on my head. Forgot my hat.

Jessica, who is a niece of Ralph Osborne, our beloved board member who passed away last year, called me offering us some of Ralph’s art for our on-line auction in February. At first, she offered two or three pieces. I said we could take whatever they wanted to donate for tax credit. To our excitement she called this week to say that closing had moved up and they had to get the art out of the house.

Amy and I wound through the potholes chatting merrily. Amy has been to Ralph’s but I had not. Way up on a hill above Mismaloya the villa sits with a panoramic view of the bay. Fishing boats anchored, float in the cove in bright colors of blue and red. I didn’t really know what to expect. At first, I was wowed by the view. Maca, the realtor and Mercedes the property manager, took us inside. The villa is massive on five floors, maybe 6. I lost count.

I just know we walked up and down all those stairs at least three times. It was a treasure hunt for PEACEAnimals. We went from room to room, with Maca encouraging us to take more and more pieces. If we didn’t take it, the buyers would just get rid of it. Those of you who knew Ralph know this was his passion, collecting art. Every room was full of paintings, ceramics, vases and other beautiful art objects. We took at least 60 or 70 items to sell. Amy is cataloging as I write. This auction in February is going to be fantastic. All the items have been appraised so we can quote you their real value.

Ceramics, carved wooden doors, seashells, vases, decorative boxes, sculpture (3 large dog sculptures by Brewster Brockmann), paintings of all sizes and subjects, far eastern art; Capelo paintings and ceramics...and so much more. All the work has been professionally appraised. To view, call Amy at WhatsApp +1 503-516 -4757.

Thank you also to the The St Regis Punta Mita for donating 3 gift certificates for lunch and dinner at Sea Breeze and Carolina! Get excited everyone! This can raise a lot of money for PEACEAnimals and I just want to say thank you to all three of Ralph’s nieces who said he loved PEACEAnimals so much and that he would be delighted that we have the art and want it to go to good homes. What a gift!
