Our mission at Amigos de La Cruz is to contribute to the quality of life in the community of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle through cultural, educational, environmental and charitable assistance programs.
After an action packed summer camp, the Kids Club teachers spent the week cleaning and packing up all the gear and materials from the secondary school. We have also reconfigured the Kids Club space, enlarging the library and reading space and accommodating classroom areas for the expected changes in our group sizes and structure. Thank you donors, for making summer camp possible!
Although President Lopez Obrador has mandated that public schools around the country open back up for in-person learning, parents in La Cruz remain uninformed regarding when classes will begin or any details about structure, schedules or classroom assignments. Given this situation, Kids Club will return to classes on September 6 and is prepared for any last minute announcements to adjust the schedule and hours.
We have decided to continue with a strong focus on academic programs, building on the progress and growth made last year. Arts and movement will continue to be a significant component as well. We have invited the students from last year to continue and will be inviting new students into the new 1st grade group.
Students who participated in the Open Learning Fridays last year and summer camp will be given priority for any openings in the other classes. There have been some moderate increases in the Kids Club fees this year to account for our augmented teaching staff and resources, however, we will be offering scholarships to help those in need or who merit the financial support.
We will be launching our "Adopt a Scholar" campaign within the next few weeks so please pay attention for upcoming details. We encourage community members and friends of Amigos de La Cruz to support one or more students. Registration begins Monday, August 30, 10:00 am to Noon and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Kids Club.
Our Dig Deep for Kids program provided for dentists attending to the La Cruz Children. In the case of Dafne, the dentists nor Dr Adrian Malja were able to provide dental services to Dafne because of a congenital heart defect. The dentists recommended a pediatric specialist in Puerto Vallarta. This past week Dafne saw the recommended dentist, after several appointments, she will see another two specialists for additional work, one in Puerto Vallarta and the other in Guadalajara. Fortunately, Dig Deep for Kids provided funds to pay for Dafne's dental work.
Thank you Donors!
We sincerely appreciate any donations large or small in helping us contribute to a better life for our children.
