JBAR - Advocating humane and healthy practices for animals in the Jaltemba area of Mexico by promoting health, education, sterilization, adoptions, foster care and positive relationships with animals and their owners.

The first JBAR Spay & Neuter clinic was held in 2006. Since then, we’ve organized 30 clinics with a grand total of some 10,515 animals sterilized to date.

A Whale Size Heart

Many thanks to the Jaltemba Bay Whale Watching Cruise for their timely donation of 67,475 pesos. Special thanks to Donna Lloyd and organizers, along with everyone who donated prizes, bought tickets and supported this event.

As a result of this donation, 27,475 pesos goes towards purchasing cat and dog food to help animal owners in the Jaltemba area who need assistance feeding their animals during the pandemic. The remaining 40,000 pesos goes towards funding JBAR’s free spay and neuter clinic.

To date, the team has purchased 3,221 lbs. (1,461 kg.) of cat and dog food. This is distributed in individual 2.21 lbs. (1 kg.) bags to 12 different food distribution centers.

Many thanks to the amazing JBAR ‘Critter Team’ volunteers:  Donna, Sofia, Koral, Amy, Cinnamon and others for helping to get bags of cat and dog food where needed.

Donna writes: "Thanks to our amazing volunteers, JBAR has now distributed over 3,221 pounds of pet food in the local area. Cesar Perez Novoa and his wife Angela are overseeing soup kitchens in 12 different locations such as La Penita, Guayabitos, Los Ayala, La Colonia, Colmena, El Monteon, Las Rosas, and La Lima - serving thousands of meals each week. We are working hard to keep up to these, and other locations, to make sure the critters get some chow too. A sincere thank you to everyone who has contributed kibble and/or money to help make this happen. You’re helping to deliver lots of smiles and wagging tails."

JBAR’s Free Spay & Neuter Clinic

Thanks to the kind donations from numerous individuals and events, JBAR is grateful to once again host a free sterilization clinic. Due to the pandemic, this clinic began April 20, 2020, and operates six days a week at the Clinica Veterinaria Barba.

The donations also help cover the costs of veterinary care to animals in need. This year so far includes emergency eye surgery for a cat, food for newborn kittens, an Erlichlia test, along with other medical procedures as needed.

We are very fortunate to have the support and services of Dr. Aldo Barba to continue helping animals in the Jaltemba area. Please call 327-107-0953 to make an appointment to sterilize a dog or cat (sterilizations by appointment only).

As long as we continue to receive donations, we will sterilize more dogs and cats over the summer. Ideally, we’d like to surpass the 337 animals sterilized at our November clinic. We will also continue buying pet food to support animal owners through the difficult times ahead.

Please consider donating to help us continue to feed, sterilize, and assist animals and their owners - especially during this pandemic!
