FONATUR Reveals New Historic Center Tourism Development Program Puerto Vallarta Convention and Visitors Bureau

Friday, a presentation of the Puerto Vallarta Historic Center Tourist Development Program was made by the City of  Puerto Vallarta and the State Government of Jalisco.

The program is part of the FONATUR Technical Assistance Program to states and municipalities, and Adalberto Fügemann y Lopez atended on behalf of Gloria Guevara Manzo, Federal Minister of Tourism. The study highlighted the areas of improvement for the city.

The event was attended by Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz, Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Adalberto Fügermann y Lopez, Deputy Director of FONATUR, Dr. Victor Mijangos Castellanos, Director General of Planning and Development of Tourist Destinations SETUJAL,  Abel Villa, Owner of Buenaventura Hotels , Salvador Peña Chávez Puerto Vallarta Centro Neighborhood Committee Representative and Magdalena Mondragón Avelar, representative of the Association of Residents of the West Central Zone.

Adalberto Fügermann gave the Tourism Development Program to the Mayor for execution and Dr. Victor Manuel Mijangos for supervision and regulation, as well as to representatives of civil associations for dissemination and socialization.

The goal of the program is to involve all segments of the tourism industry including hotels, taxi drivers and more, to make Puerto Vallarta a top five tourism destination in terms of attracting visitors.

Some of the projects that in the report are:

• Metropolitan Complex Sport, Recreation and Culture (METRO COM)

      Includes the remodeling of the sports center, regional aquarium, footbridge park, spa/beach club, a federal shore area and a sculpture park.

• Archaeological Museum / Cuale Island

      Restoring public areas and the installation of an outdoor museum.

• Plaza del Mar

      Installing a fish market in Parque Hidalgo to sell  regional fresh seafood and shellfish in accordance to City building regulations.

• Lazaro Cardenas Sculpture Park and Amphitheatre

      Restoring public spaces and providing an area for cultural activities

• Seniors Residential District

      Creating a neighborhood with landscaping and a hospital and spa.

Strategic planning has been instrumental for Puerto Vallarta in moving forward to achieve integration and strengthening of the tourism sector as a key economic activity for the development of the State.
