The Department of Health with support of the Government has developed a campaign to help in the prevention of suicide.

The program is primarily directed to the youth in our community because of their vulnerability to negative social interactions and the problems that today's youth face.

The "United for Life" campaign begins this month and is a part of the programs offered by the Ministry of Health along with the Center of Mental Health (CESAME).

The program will include visits to the secondary schools and conferences to alert the media as to the needs in this area in guiding young students, their parents and teachers, as to the signs of alarm in a person with suicidal thoughts.

As part of the Conference, specialized tests have been introduced for the students that will help detect who are the young people who have suicidal profiles.

For those who test positive to the profile, they will receive free treatment.

As an added bonus, CESAME has also established a Crisis Intervention Hotline (SIC) with operators manning the telephones 24/7, for those who need help and require attention to emotional crisis. The operators are mental health specialists and this is a free and confidential service. The Hotline number is 214-0101.
