The City Council of Puerto Vallarta, through the Art and Culture Board, announced the program of activities for Mexican Independence Day, beginning today and concluding on midnight on September 15, 2012.

Among the activities that have been planned to commemorate the Independence of Mexico, is the "Queen of the Fiestas Patrias" competition to be held in the main courtyard of City Hall at 8:00 pm, Sunday September 9.

On Thursday, September 13, there will be a flag ceremony at the Agustin Flores Contreras Sports Center to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Chapultepec Castle and 9:00 am there will be a ceremony at the Main Plaza in Pitillal.

Scheduled for Friday, September 14, is the Parade of the Puerto Vallarta Associations of Charros at Lazaro Cardenas Plaza on Calle Ignacio L. Vallarta, an event that has become an annual tradition in our tourist destination.

On Saturday, September 15, at 8:00 am there will be a flag ceremony in the main square of the city, while at noon, with the participation of municipal employees and students, a presentation will be made to mark the anniversary of the Mexican National Anthem.

Finally, to complete the activities for the 202nd Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico, minutes before midnight, the Municipal Government Secretary General will read the Declaration of Independence from the main balcony of City Hall and then the Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Salvador Gonzalez Resendiz, will perform the traditional Grito de Independencia in the Plaza de Armas.
