The current municipal administration has significantly strengthened the sports infrastructure in our city as part of the commitment of the Government of Arturo Dávalos to promote sporting activities among the population of Puerto Vallarta, and furthermore, the opening of the new Boxing Gym at the Alfonso Diaz Santos Sport Center.

The gym carries the name of "Porfirio Cruz Loza," one of Jalisco's top boxing trainers who was significant in bringing amateur boxing to Puerto Vallarta. The children of "El Mere" were present, Oscar and Ruben, who excitedly recalled the love that their father had for this city.

The Director of the Municipal Sports Council (COMUDE), Jose Amador Hernandez Madrigal, explained that with an investment of 223,202 pesos the space was rehabilitated that was previously abandoned at the Sports Center. The space consists of 22 x 12 meters and walls have been rebuilt, surfaces leveled and plastered, two access doors were fitted out to the sidewalk that connects to the central administrative office, electrical, general painting, placement of a metal structure for equipment, signage and fire extinguishers.

Mirrors were added and also boxing equiment which consists of 4 official sacks, 4 pear-shaped speed bags, 6 masks, 12 jump ropes, 6 pair of gloves, with the "Fire Sport" brand. This facility is in addition to the already existing boxing equipment space which contains 2 wheels, sacks, weight benches, speed bags and other boxing equipment.

Depicting the Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña, President of the Sports Commission Alderman, Juan Jose Cuevas Garcia, stressed that the Government promotes the diversification of sports because we are working to be the most important sports tourist town in the country.

The ceremony was also attended by Councillor Magaly Fregoso, the Municipal Commissioner of Boxing and Fighting, Manuel Galindo Nolasco, and Father Job Contreras of the parish of San Miguel Archangel, who blessed the facility.

Currently there are about 80 fighters of both branches that trained in different shifts and they are expected to perform promotions and displays in schools and public squares in order increase the popularity of this sport. Two young apprentices gave a demonstration to the enthusiastic audience and the plaque was unveiled that bears the name of the gym.
