Miguel Carvalho - Punta de Mita Vacation Rentals
Saludos!
I am still in vacation mode down here. July was definitely kick-back-and-have-fun. But, really, why shouldn’t August be the same? Long, hot days, cooling breezes, plenty of ocean and water sports to enjoy….the vacation is just continuing. The kids don’t have to be back at school until the end of the month, so more time to enjoy the beaches, the family and some lazy days.
Many of my guests ask me why I am always writing about and referring to Punta Mita when they have stayed at our incredible luxury rentals in Sayulita. Well, that is a very good question. I guess it’s because my office and home are based in Punta Mita.
But, really, there is no good reason as I am in Sayulita on a regular basis and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the town.
If you are not familiar with Sayulita, it is just a short distance from Punta Mita – about a 15-minute drive through a wonderful, curvy road edged with abundant jungle flora. The drive is especially beautiful during the summer months when we experience our rains. The jungle becomes bright green and banks of vibrantly-hued flowers spring up all over the place.
Savor the Sayulita Scene
Once a quiet fishing village, today Sayulita is best known for its beaches. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly swimming, a constant surf break, a happening beach scene or your own private stretch of sand, Sayulita has a beach to suit your needs.
Sayulita village offers lots of restaurants. Stop by the main plaza and check out my favourite breakfast joint, Chocobanana.
One of the most exotic spectacles in Sayulita is the colorful clan of Huichol Indians who congregate in front of Chocobanana and spend their days painstakingly creating their out-of-this world beaded artifacts.
Nightlife, too, is abundant here – with beach bars where you can dance on the sand until dawn as well as live music venues that rock until very late……or should I say early? (Beginning to show my age!)
We have several properties conveniently located in town just a few minutes from the Central Plaza. So you can really soak up the atmosphere and come rolling in at whatever hour you please! Amazingly, these homes offer plenty of peace and quiet once you have shut the doors and hunkered down behind their thick, cool walls.
However, if it’s peace and quiet you are looking for - with the occasional foray into town - I have plenty of wonderful, exclusive options for you in Punta Sayulita.
Punta Sayulita is a 5-minute golf cart drive away from the main plaza – and yes, you can drive around in golf carts in Sayulita. Despite its close proximity, it is like entering another universe.
“What makes Punta Sayulita so special?” you ask. (I guess this is the part of the newsletter where - if I was smart - I would include testimonials from past guests.) It is an incredible surprise to enter through the rustic gates and find yourself in an eco-friendly, jungle fantasyland.
Back on the subject of food and drink… which I know we weren’t but by now you all know how I have this little penchant for F+B (food and beverage). When you’re at Punta Sayulita, apart from the totally jaw-dropping views, incredible service and all the other great things – I have to tell you I am absolutely head-over-heels in love with Chef Caesar’s pecan pie! And Limones Verdant Viper Cocktail….not necessarily consumed together but definitely as often as possible! We do not have Pecan Pie in Portugal. I now know it is associated with Thanksgiving this side of the world so it may seem like a strange choice next to the ocean. But this pie is divine any time of the year and is especially good with a summertime scoop of vanilla ice cream!
If you are not staying in Punta Sayulita, but would like to go and check it out - I can arrange for a quick flip through for us with a stop on the way at the beach club.
Jump on a plane or into your car and come visit me this August in my little piece of paradise. I’ll show you around, introduce you to my favourite spots and stand you a piece of that spectacular pie! How can you refuse?
Here’s to August!
