More than 84 thousand metric tons of garbage are produced in Mexico on any given day (30 million tons annually). Approximately 57 thousand of these end up in gullies, roads, empty lots, rivers, and clandestine garbage dumps. Rains, winds and storms eventually lead the waste to rivers, lakes, and ultimately our oceans.

A group of community leaders, the Jaguar Warriors, have teamed up with Fundacion Punta de Mita in a commitment to keep the garbage from polluting our towns and roads and reaching our beaches and beautiful bay waters, as well as changing habits and creating consciousness about the importance of conserving our environment.

The Jaguar Warriors pick up between 150 and 200 large bags of garbage monthly, amounting to about 3,400 garbage bags in the 2.5 years they have been operating! 197 different community members have participated, slowly taking ownership of the program and proposing ways of expanding it, including also cleaning the ravines bordering the highway, as well as the beaches and streets of Corral del Risco.

Thank you to the Jaguar Warriors for setting an example to the community, to Riviera Nayarit Visitors and Convention Center for the garbage bags, gloves and water, and to all of our donors for continuing to support this program.
