LA to Vallarta-Nayarit Non-Stops Planned by Southwest Jorge Jimenez - CVB of Riviera Nayarit

Southwest Airlines announced via press release that it sent a proposal to the US Department of Transportation for a new international flight from Los Angeles to the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport to being by the end of the year, thus providing additional airlift to Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit.

Should the proposal be approved at the end of June, the new nonstop flight will be daily and year round beginning in November 2016. Gary Kelly, Southwest Airlines’ President and Chairman of the Board, has been very pleased with the results of the Denver, Houston and Orange County flights inaugurated in 2015.

“These flights will offer excellent value to the US consumers and will contribute significantly to Mexico’s bottom line, which represents a benefit for both the United States and Mexico,” said José Luis Sánchez, Director of Government Affairs for Southwest Airlines. “We hope to work together with the Mexican government in order to obtain approval for these flights as soon as possible.”

“Southwest is a very successful airline thanks to its quality and affordability, besides having an excellent fleet that allows it to saturate the market,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re overjoyed as destinations every time an airline wants to fly in more tourists. This is proof our tourism recovery is firmly consolidating.”
