Donations from Kamsack residents were delivered to a Mexican orphanage in January.

Before leaving for a three-week vacation to the Puerto Vallarta area of Mexico, Joan Barron of Kamsack accepted financial contributions and assembled about 20 kilograms of donations including toiletries and clothing, which she delivered to the Casa Hogar government-operated orphanage in Puerto Vallarta.

About 32 children ranging in age from newborns to about 12 years live at the orphanage which includes a school and church, Barron said, adding that while there, she spent three days working with the children, both in the classrooms and the kitchen and helped to provide a storytime for them.

Barron said she is appreciative of the contributions made by Amanda Burback and Naomi Tensen at the school, and Nicole Rossback, manager of the Fields store in Kamsack.

That was the fourth time that Barron has taken items to an orphanage in Mexico.

The Casa Hogar facility is wonderful and clean and the children are so well taken care of, she said. “The kids have tons of love to give and many foreigners visit the place.”

Barron said that when she visits Mexico next winter she will again take donations to an orphanage. Persons wishing to contribute may contact her through Kamsack Times.
