The boyfriend of singer and actress Olivia Newton-John has turned up in Mexico 11 years after he disappeared during a fishing trip in California.

Patrick McDermott, now 59, is living and working in Sayulita, Nayarit, according to a report by Women’s Day magazine.

McDermott disappeared during an overnight fishing trip, triggering a search of the California coast for weeks until the Coast Guard concluded he had drowned, although none of the 22 passengers on the boat saw him go overboard.

Two months later, investigators decided the former cameraman had faked his own death.

That was the conclusion of private investigator Phillip Klein, who has been following the case since 2009. He released his findings in a 2012 book called Lost at Sea: The Hunt for Patrick McDermott.

Soon after, Klein heard from someone who claimed to be a friend of McDermott, who asked that he be left alone and that the search be stopped. The missing man’s lawyer also contacted Klein with the same message.

It was Klein who tracked McDermott to Sayulita where he was reportedly working as a deckhand on a fishing boat...
