After almost a year and a half of construction on what the Puerto Vallarta locals call the "big tunnel", the Mayor, Salvador González Resendiz, states that the work on the second tunnel is scheduled to conclude in mid-August or early September of 2012.

The addition of the second tunnel on the highway of Luis Donaldo Colosio, that connects the north area of Puerto Vallarta to the Olas Altas community and the highway to Mismaloya, will provide a better traffic flow and alternative route around the city.

In a meeting with construction engineers, Resendiz said that Municipal Government, along with the the Municipal Civil Protection Unit, Public Works, Public Services and Transit, will work in coordination with the personnel of the construction company so that tasks are performed in time and form.

He expressed that this comprehensive project is intended to provide both the local community and tourists with an alternative of roads to travel in connecting the north with the south, thereby relieving the congestion of other streets of the city.

All parties involved are working carefully in an effort to protect the general population, the workers themselves and the machinery.

The second tunnel will provide two new lanes of traffic flow, created from opening the hillside to the West of the existing tunnel.

The Mayor expressed appreciation for this important work for the city of Puerto Vallarta and gives special thanks to the Federal Government's Communications and Transportation Secretary for funding the nearly 150 million pesos project.
