In order to involve children and young people in the creation of original messages that promote the prevention of drug use and the adoption of healthy lifestyles, as well as promote in them creativity, imagination and wit, the Juvenile Integration Center is inviting children and teenagers to participate in the National Contest of Literary Expression 2016, "How I Protect Myself from Drugs."

The objective is to promote children and youth participation in literary expression, as an alternative to recreation and a resource for protection against drug use.

Artistic expressions such as literature and drawing stimulate the brain processes, cognitive and affective, as well as creativity and imagination. They promote the autonomy of thought, empathy with different forms of life and the healthy development of children, adolescents and young people.

This contest is directed to children and adolescents between 6 and 15 years, divided into three categories:

I. 6-9 years of age: drawing and brief explanation about it
II. 10 to 12 years old: story
III. 13 to 15 years of age: tale

General rules of participation:

• Entry in this contest assumes that the terms and conditions described in the invitation are accepted.
• The participation is individual.
• Work must contain a positive and purposeful message to encourage children and adolescents to adopt healthy lifestyles contrary to the consumption of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
• It is important to avoid messages of violence or death, discrimination of race, gender, or social group.
• Family members or employees of Youth Integration Centers are not eligible.
• Admission of works will close on 31 August at 6:00 pm.
• Only new and original work is acceptable.
• The judges will determine the winners in the month of September of 2016 and the decision will be final and unappealable.

I. Category - 6 to 9 years of age

Participants must send a drawing about themselves protected from drugs (made with colors, graphite pencils, markers, crayon, acrylic, oil or watercolor, made in cardboard or paper illustration, cardboard or paper shell, not exceeding 60 x 40 cm and not less than 28 x 21.5 cm.), which shall be accompanied by a brief explanation written by hand. The wording must not exceed 200 words.

The drawings and the explanation must include a sheet with the following data: title of the work; full name of the author and of the mother, father or tutor; age of the contestant; domicile; phone number with area; name of the school of origin and grade. A copy of the certificate of birth or the unique key of population registration (CURP) from the author and a copy of any official identification of the mother, father or guardian is also required.

II. Category - 10 to 12 years of age

Contestants must submit a story about how to protect themselves from drugs, with at least three pages and maximum of five pages (between five thousand and nine thousand characters). A story is a brief narrative in which a limited number of characters are involved in a single situation; It has a entry, a development, a plot or climax and an ending.

The work will be written in Arial 12 font, double spaced and stapled. It is essential to include four copies. In the envelope you should also attach a sheet with the following information: title of the work; full name of the author and of the mother, father or tutor; age of the contestant; domicile; phone number with area code; name of the school of origin and grade. A copy of the certificate of birth or the unique key of population registration (CURP) from the author and a copy of any official identification of the mother, father or guardian is also required.

III. Category - 13 to 15 years of age

Contestants must submit a story about how to protect themselves from drugs, with at least three pages and maximum of five pages (between five thousand and nine thousand characters). Delivery of entries:

• Each participant may only register a picture or a story.
• The participants should submit their work to their local Juvenile Integration Center. For more information about the location of them, enter the website of www.cij.gob.mx. Also, submissions can be delivered or sent by courier to Aguascalientes 201, 6th floor, Col. Hipódromo, Delegation Cuauhtemoc, C.P. 06100, Mexico City.
• Submissions will be accepted from April 1 to August 31, 2016.

Evaluation:

All entries will be evaluated by a jury composed of academics and specialists in art and literature, as well as addictions. The jury selection criteria will be based on the artistic and literary quality of the work, also taking into account that the message should be positive and motivating. In the case of the entries by the participants from six to nine years of age the creativity and originality of the drawing will also be assessed.

The three best works in each category will be selected and if warranted, citations will also be delivered.

Awards:

Prizes in cash or in kind to the three first places for each category will be awarded.

1st Place: 7,000 pesos
2nd Place: 5,000 pesos
3rd Place: 3,000 pesos

The date and the place of the award ceremony, and the results will be announced at the time in the Juvenile Integration Center website.

It should be noted that the submitted entries may be used, without profit, in preventive activities of the Juvenile Integration Centers.

All contestants will be entitled to a Certificate of Participation which will be provided by request within 90 days of the award ceremony.
