SEAPAL to Invest 118 Million Pesos in 2012 PV Mirror

According to Oscar Fernando Castellón, Director of SEAPAL Vallarta (Sistema de los Servicios de Agua Potable, Drenaje y Alcantarillado), the company in charge of water treatment and sewage in Puerto Vallarta will invest 118 Million Pesos this year in infrastructure and rehabilitation projects.

Castellón mentioned that they have a register of all leaks and broken water pipes in the city, what kind of leaks or ruptures they are, and most importantly, what caused them, adding that most breaks are caused by people using heavy machinery in construction projects.

SEAPAL must also do much work to inform residents of the importance of ensuring that rain water does not enter the sewage pipes, as this kind of volume would exceed their operational ability.

In the meantime, the City's Public Works Department is waiting for funds to be released so that it may purchase the materials needed to continue with the repair of the potholes throughout Vallarta. The work began three weeks ago, but with the evening rains during the last two weeks, the reports of potholes have multiplied, which require more shift workers and more materials in order to be handled properly.

Director Víctor Hugo Fernández Flores added that the Department was working with some contractors who, due to the upcoming change in administration, were let go... question of payments, contracts, etc. But there have been talks with the Treasury Department and the materials should be delivered any day now. "We have 60 people now, and we're just waiting for the materials."

According to Sr. Fernández, most potholes appear where the roads are of asphalt, such as the Libramiento, the older part of the highway to Mismaloya and the Las Juntas-Ixtapa stretch of road.
