In the year 2016, the Municipal Sports Council (COMUDE) has scheduled a series of events both local, regional and at the State level, which seeks to involve the population in sports activities, according to the project of Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña.
So far there are 18 events on the agenda, however is expected to progress higher according to the Director of COMUDE, José Amador Hernández Madrigal.
The activities will begin on January 16 and 17 with the scheduled IV Circuit of Athletics Vallarta 2016 (IV Circuito de Atletismo Vallarta 2016), as part of the State's qualifying field in the process of the National Olympiad. This will be held in collaboration with the Club Halcones in Puerto Vallarta and 350 participants are expected.
In the month of February, there will be intense activity, starting from the 19th to the 21st with the Third Selective State of Boxing (Tercer Selectivo Estatal de Boxeo) where 80 fighters will participate in this qualifying tournament for the National Olympiad.
On February 26 there will be a synchronized swimming performance by the #1 Team in the State of Jalisco, in order to promote this discipline.
The 27th will be the IV Interscholastic Championship of Swimming (IV Campeonato Interescolar de Natación), with 250 mermen and mermaids participating, whose aim is to disseminate and develop swimming in colleges, schools and local clubs. The Fifth Edition will take place on May 28.
In order to promote physical activities, there will be four athletic races with an expected average of 200 local participants in each, February 28, April 24, June 26 and September 25.
On March 19, the Vallarta Open Water Cup 2016 (Serial Copa Vallarta de Aguas Abiertas 2016) will be held by invitation. This event is organized by the National Association of Swimming (Asociación Nacional de Natación) from the State of Jalisco, with competition from 400 participants.
On the same day, the Vallarta 2016 Triathlon begins, which will have two days of duration and is a contest by invitation with 200 competitors, which is intended to institutionalize as part of the activities of the Association of the State of Jalisco.
On March 20 the Regional Championship of Road Cycling (Campeonato Regional de Ciclismo de Ruta) will be held with 230 riders in the youth and masters categories.
During the month of April the Regional Mountain Biking Cup (Copa Regional de Ciclismo de Montaña) with have 250 competitors between youth and masters.
In May, approximately 800 participants compete in the Rhythmic Gymnastics Invitational Puerto Vallarta Cup 2016 (Copa de Gimnasia Rítmica), where gyms will be invited throughout the State and the rest of the country.
On July 24 the Vallarta Cup of Swimming (Copa Vallarta de Natación) will take place, by invitation, and is a preparatory event for the National Olympiad in which 300 participants are expected.
About 100 coaches, technicians and local sports instructors will attend training conferences and workshops on September 23 and 24.
To close the local specialty calendar, on October 29 the 6th Inter-School Swimming Championships (VI Campeonato Interescolar de Natación) will be held with about 250 competitors.
Finally, from December 2-4, 200 participants will attend the 6th Regional Adapted Sports (VI Regional del Deporte Adaptado), which is a qualifying event in the process of the National Paralympics 2017.
