Committed to the environment, the City Council of Puerto Vallarta, presided by Arturo Dávalos Peña, invites citizens to participate on November 14 in the second contest of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" to be held in the aisles of the Presidency (in the Town Square) at 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. It involves the development of a piece of furniture or object with recycled material.

People who want to participate have until November 10 to register by sending an e-mail with the names of the members (2-4 participants) and the name of the agency, institution or company to  medioambientepv@hotmail.com or visit the social network for Medio Ambiente PV on Facebook. You will receive a reply with a registration to complete.

The competition includes two categories: the children of 9-15 years and for adults 16 and older; both should develop a piece of furniture or object composed of 80% recyclable materials and submit their 'participants information sheet' of no more than a half page including names of the individuals, the name of the institution or company and the project description and material used.

"The goal is to create a culture that will allow us as citizens to identify materials that can be reused, so that we can separate those items from the garbage and thus generating better practices of waste management and also increasing the life of our landfills. It is open to all age groups except people with professional workshop businesses where they make furniture from recycled materials. Today we are trying to test the creativity of citizens in the use of materials they have on hand," explained Juan Jose Navarro, Deputy Director of Environment and Ecology.

There will be an evaluation committee who will take into account the criteria of originality, design and benefit (use and/or enjoyment). The teams will also get extra points for presentation and cleanliness.

"With this competition we are also commemorating World Recycling Day of November 15 and continue creating the culture of recycling in Vallarta. It is important to note that the teams should arrive at the  City Hall with their projects at 8:00 am to arrange the spaces for the evaluation committee," said the city official.
