La Cruz celebrated the life of Philo Hayward with a no-bars-held send-off memorial Saturday that started at 11:00 am and went into the night.

There were hugs and tears, smiles and laughter, food and drink, music, anecdotes and remembrances, music, more drinks, funny stories, music, tributes, jokes and yes, more music.

The two constants that permeated the event were the universal praise of Philo's selflessness and conviction and the gracious stature of Maria Joaquina and her love of Philo.

When rain forced people seated outside to move indoors, speaker Mike Danielson (who delivers the daily weather on the Cruisers' Radio Net) commented that "...those aren't raindrops, they're tears of joy from Philo in heaven!"  Mike also pledged to help keep all the good causes that Philo championed ongoing.

Food was abundant thanks to all the attendees and the music was ongoing from all of the many musicians who had played with Philo over the years. A recorded "live stream" of the event will soon be available on the philosbar.com website.

La Cruz has lost a hero.
