Four Collection Centers in Puerto Vallarta for Disposal of Electronics Team Angels/Daniela Gonzalez - AZ Noticias

The campaign of "Mueve tus Electrónicos" ("Move Your Electronics") will provide four collection centers in Puerto Vallarta where disposal can be made for electronics as an appropriate final destination which provides special waste treatment for those items that pose a risk to the environment and the health of the population.

The two days of collections with be Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26 between 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.

The four areas of collection are:

• Sports Arena Agustín Flores Contreras
• Parking Lot of Soriana Pitillal
• Main square of Ixtapa (for items such as large generators from restaurants, hotels and schools)
• Warehouse at Avenida Francisco Villa 679

Items to be received include televisions (which were not included in previous editions), computers, laptops, keyboards, computer mice, voltage breaks & regulators, printers, copiers, monitors, screens, DVD and CD discs. Also included is telecommunications equipment such as routers, modems, switches, repeaters, wireless cards, scanners, cabinets and mounting networks. They will be accepting remote control devices, faxes, telephones, cell phones, tablets, audio equipment, video game consoles, controls, speakers, power tools such as drills, cutters, polishers; e-cards, vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, electronic fans, VCRs, CD players, DVD & Blue Ray, chargers, control panels, cables and other small appliances.

They will not receive refrigerators, washers, dryers, freezers, air conditioners, lights, lamps and batteries.

Details of the campaign were released by the Director of Environment and Ecology of Puerto Vallarta, Juan José Navarro Amaral, who noted that this is a proposal that comes from the municipal government to strengthen ongoing actions in this area which has provided the comprehensive management of approximately 35 tons of electronics. It is hoped that 10 more tons will be added to this figure from this collection.

Juan José adding that this campaign should raise awareness for citizens to participate in caring for the environment by not depositing waste on vacant land or in the rivers and ocean but to give these items  special treatment required because both authorities the population share responsibility for the final disposal of these wastes.

"Many times we do not know that this type of waste should be given special treatment and we simply throw them in vacant lots or yards where they can be washed away by the rain into bodies of water generating a major conflict of contamination; for this reason we are attempting to educate the public with the knowledge of the correct destination to complete the waste cycle and let them know that we need their help," he explained.

The campaign is being carried out with the support of Electronic Scrap Recycling Company of the Pacific (Recicladora Scrap Electrónicos del Pacífico), based in Manzanillo, Colima which has all the necessary permits for the integrated management of these wastes. Also in the case of large generators, the company will be issuing the certificates of destruction for checking a good final destination according to the norm for tax purposes. About environmental verifier, Paulina Juárez said it is important that large generators that require this certificate contact the Directorate of Environment and Ecology via email at medioambientepv@hotmail.com, in order to create a list of the equipment to be delivered so the appropriate documentation can be processed in a timely manner.
