As part of the 14th anniversary celebration for University of Guadalajara Radio at CUCosta in Puerto Vallarta, you won't want to miss the "Battle of the 14 Bands" scheduled for September 17, 18 and 19, 2015.

This competition is available to any band in Puerto Vallarta or Banderas Bay where at least one of the members of each band is an active local high school or college student.

The 14 finalists are chosen from a 2 1/2 to 3 minute audition of original songs in English or Spanish. Songs cannot contain political, religious, offensive content or be directed toward a specific person or institution.

Qualifying bands must be within the following group distinctions: country rock, folk rock, glam rock, hardcore, grunge, hardrock, heavy metal, indie rock, jazz rock, new wave, punk, reggae, rap rock, rock and roll, rockabilly, rock, alternative, instrumental rock, rock pregressive, rock symphonic, ska, soft rock, soul rock and surf.

The eliminations will take place on the campus of CUCosta at Cifuentes Auditorium on September 17 and 18 beginning at 11:00 am. There will be a surprise kick-off band on September 17 to begin the event.

Each band will be given 10 minutes on stage for the judging. Seven bands will be eliminated on September 17 and three more will be eliminated on September 18, leaving the final four in competition.

The finals will be held at Murphy's Irish Pub on the Puerto Vallarta Malecon at 8:00 pm on September 19. The four finalist bands will have 10 minutes to perform 2 or 3 songs. The judges (from the Organizing Committee) will deliberate and announce the winners.

All the participating bands will receive a certificate of participation and commemorative t-shirt. The band in 3rd place will receive a professional recording of one song and participation in a special program dedicated to the winners of the competition.
