Puerto Vallarta will soon have a new upscale shopping center on the main avenue with the construction started and plans for completion of "The Island" ("La Isla") in September 2016.

The Island in Puerto Vallarta will be the third shopping mall of that name to open nationally to the public. It is located on Avenue Francisco Medina Ascencio at the side of the Pitillal River, next to the popular beach access of Holi. The other two Island shopping centers are located in Cancun and Acapulco which have also been developed by GICSA, a Mexican real estate development company.

In an interview with AZ Noticias, Victor Hugo Gonzalez, Construction Manager of La Isla Puerto Vallarta, commented that "we have been developing this project three years (...) and we have finally started the construction."

This mall will have about 68 thousand square meters of construction, which will be distributed in the underground parking, ground floor and upper levels that will house about 45 shops and food, where brands such as Bershka and HM will be present. The food area will feature Italianni's, Sanborns, and Starbucks, among others.

Notably, the new shopping center to open in September 2016 has already generated about 500 new jobs for the city, not including those that will be generated after opening the mall.
