Sister Cities Prose and Poetry Exchange Contest Team Angels - PVAngels

The Highland Park Sister Cities Foundation and Highland Park Poetry have launched a Prose and Poetry Contest.

The contest is open to everyone of all ages who lives, works or studies in Highland Park and all of our Sister Cities: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Modena, Italy; and Yerucham, Israel.

Entries are open to amateurs, semiprofessionals and professionals of all ages who are invited to submit original prose or poetry.

Submissions should express the writer's experiences, thoughts or feelings related to their city - its soul, fabric and beauty.

Original poetry should be 30 lines or fewer and original prose of 500 words or less. Previously published works are accepted but please indicate where and when the work appeared.

Submissions may be written in the predominant language of the city. If selected, the author is encouraged to provide a translation into English.

Highland Park Poetry will send the guest judges of all the pieces blind - that means that all identifying information about the author has been removed. The guest judge selects the pieces for their city in each of the categories and sends the names of the winning pieces to Highland Park Poetry.

The contest will be divided into the following categories:

• Students up to 10 years old
• Students 11-­13 years old
• High School Students 14-­18 years old
• Adults

Depending on the number of submissions received, it is hoped that there will 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each category in both the Prose and Poetry submissions.

Entries will be via Electronic Submission only. Send piece(s) as text in the body of an email to Jennifer@highlandparkpoetry.org. Please put "2015 Sister Cities Prose and Poetry Exchange" in the subject line of the email.

The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2015 and selected authors will be notified by August 5.

Highland Park Poetry will publish the selected poems under the Muses’ Gallery of Highland Park Poetry. If a poem is selected as a winner, it must be translated into English by the poet for publication. Poems will be published both in the original language and in English. Due to formatting issues, prose will not be able to be published on the Highland Park Poetry website. However, both prose and poetry will be published in a limited-edition volume of Prose and Poetry published by the Highland Park Sister Cities Foundation, and selected works will be posted on the HPSCF's Facebook page.
