American retirees — better known as Baby Boomers — are a constant presence in the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, both as temporary and as permanent residents. This specific segment is very important within the destinations’ natural markets; therefore, several promotional events took place in May in order to keep them coming.

The Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust (Fidetur) were both present at the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) 2015 Life@50+ National Event & Expo in Miami, Florida, from May 14-16.

The event was attended by approximately 5,000 people between the ages of 50 and 85 who came in from several states around the nation. AARP has over seven million members in that age group in the United States alone. They’ve been hosting this annual reunion since 2001, where members get three days’ worth of access to retirement planning information.

The convention offers Baby Boomers the opportunity to inquire further on different issues including health services, financial planning and, of course, travel and retirement options outside of the United States—all essential during this stage of life.

According to data from CNN, there are over one million US retirees living part- or full-time in Mexico, mainly along the coast.

During the event, the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta focused on their relaxed lifestyle, cultural riches, cuisine, medical services, airlift, infrastructure, golf and other attractions in order to further position the destinations with this particular segment.
