SSJ Starts Operating Against Dengue and Chikungunya in Vallarta-Nayarit

The Ministry of Health Jalisco (SSJ) in coordination with the State of Nayarit, launched the Interstate Operating Dengue and Chikungunya in the village of Bucerias, Nayarit.

The operation aims at reducing vector densities transmitter of both diseases, working together with the authorities of Nayarit. Entities seeking to strengthen epidemiological surveillance, reduce mosquito breeding and conduct spraying to reduce the incidence of these diseases.

During his speech, the Secretary of Health of Jalisco, Jaime Agustín Gonzalez Alvarez, said: "The message we are sending today is in two parts, first the Government and I mean the Government of the Republic linearly, State and Municipal, but mainly the population is going to help us. If we have the ability to remove the collection reservoirs and all containers where the larva grows and becomes a mosquito, that will help us to have a positive impact to be able to eliminate disease."

Gonzalez Alvarez stressed the importance of joining efforts with neighboring States to combat the vector that produces both diseases.

For his part, the representative of the Secretary of Health of Nayarit, Aurelio Aguirre, said that the intention of these meetings is precisely interstate between neighbors to take care and be well prepared to prevent the presence of the vector since cure is more expensive than prevention.

In Jalisco there have been 82 cases of Dengue to cut epidemiological week 18 to May 9, of which 64 are of classic and 18 hemorrhagic type.

The company is regarded nationally as a benchmark in terms of surveillance, since it was the first in which an imported Chikungunya case was detected, in addition to cases of Dengue are down compared to 2014.

Compared to last year, Jalisco shows a decrease in the number of dengue cases 73.1 percent. Whereas for the same epidemiological week in 2014, 305 cases were recorded, in 2015 only 82 have registered.

In corresponding to Chikungunya, Jalisco has detected 11 imported cases (the last four from the state of Guerrero), of which one is registered in Cihuatlan, pending two cases studied in the same municipality.

To combat the vectors of Dengue and Chikungunya, the SSJ has installed 14,558 Ovitraps (which mimic the preferred breeding site for container breeding mosquitoes), supplied 309 backpack sprayers, 29 Termonebulizadoras (additives, organic biocides and disinfectants), 106 ULV Teams (fogging operations), 240 "Clean Patio" Brigade, and 630 Vector Control Brigades.
