Round Up at OXXO... Say Yes!

Have you seen the face of hunger? Yes, many times, because every day mothers, fathers, grandparents, children and people in our community suffer from hunger and malnutrition.

That is why the OXXO stores chain has implemented the "Yes, Round Up" program to support the Food Bank of Puerto Vallarta in its work of bringing more and better food to those in need through the campaign of rounding up during the months of June and July, 2012.

To officially start this altruistic campaign, the OXXO convenience store chain has formally made a commitment to provide all the money that will be raised through the pesos that customers contribute on a voluntary basis to reach the next round figure in your purchase.

The Food Bank of Puerto Vallarta is a non-profit civil association founded in the year 2000, which seeks to balance social inequality through support for vulnerable groups, institutions and families to alleviate hunger and malnutrition.

The Food Bank selects and distributes perishable and non-perishable food to the needy in the region. They seek to recover and take advantage of all the wasted food that is 100% edible.

They work to create awareness among producers and distributors to avoid waste, allowing them to maximize food usage. Each food is classified and chosen as those most likely to be used for human consumption.

There is a base of more than 6 thousand people benefiting and 56 per cent of those are in the vulnerable groups of children and the elderly. The Food Bank serves approximately 44 colonies, including the rural communities, in the municipalities of Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes and Banderas Bay.

The goal with receiving the rounded up funds is the purchase of food such as grains and cereals (beans, rice, oats, lentils, soy), as well as the acquisition of a cooling unit, which will allow an increased product collection of 30%.

The Food Bank of Puerto Vallarta thanks the OXXO convenience stores for their continued support in their efforts to feed the needy in our area.
