Surf Mexico & Starboard are proud to launch SUP Polo, a game that is predicted to steer the future of SUP as a team sport.
The World SUP Polo Games are now taking place in beautiful La Tranquila in Litibu, Mexico from May 13-15, 2015 to coincide with the ISA World SUP Championships and is supported by Mexico Surf Federation (FMS) and Surf Mexico.
SUP Polo, requires 2 teams consisting of 3 competitors on each to work together to score more goals than the other using the SUP Polo blade to shoot, while also paddling on their SUP. Since the early testing, the game has evolved and developed to now offer the full Polo package including; the Astro 9’5” SUP Polo Board, SUP Polo Paddle and the SUP Polo Field. Equipped with governing approved rules and regulations, SUP Polo is ready to be enjoyed by all.
The concept of SUP Polo was developed from the need to find different ways to attract more people to enjoy SUP and to capture a team aspect. Observing the long success of Water Polo and recognizing the health and fitness benefits of SUP, it is the perfect match to combine these two disciplines to offer an exciting new team sport in SUP.
SUP Polo was launched at the first 2014 SUP Polo World Championships at the 2014 Starboard Dealer meeting in Spain. Teams entered from all around the world for the chance to be crowned champions and to learn the dynamics of this new sport.
The event was an absolute sensation, and since then, the hype and love for the sport has been growing quickly. SUP Polo is truly a game for all to enjoy. It is a fun, action fueled game that is fast paced and exciting to watch. It is a test to any paddler’s skills, working on balance, coordination, reactions, stamina and agility.
The future scope of the sport is wide, from the elite competitions, schools teaching the youth to learn core skills, team building and corporate networking, to the weekend competition with friends. Addictive, healthy and sociable, SUP Polo is a Team Sport for all!
