Just when you think you’ve experienced every kind of happy surprise that PV has to offer, some fresh happy addition to life pops up. You may not see it coming, but you can depend on it. Really, I should have anticipated something special when 17 Jews went out to dinner on Christmas.

I know and respect the ancient Jewish tradition of having Chinese food on Christmas. However, when in Rome, or in this case (as it has been for the past 15 years), we are not in Rome but beautiful Puerto Vallarta. So, we ate Mexican. We were in Pipi’s celebrating the birthday of one of our acquired PV, “Same time next year,” family. Okay, it was gringoized Mexican, but still.

Frankly, the fajitas–beef or chicken (dare I admit shrimp?)–could pass for Chinese. It is, after all, onions with green, red, mild and hot peppers tossed with grilled meat. It could easily be prepared in a wok instead of on a grill. Admittedly the Margaritas were a non-traditional element, but we’re a flexible lot and happy to adjust to local customs–particularly when the party was being hosted.
