Puerto Vallarta joins the commemoration of the International Day of Animal Rights beginning today with a series of lectures, fun contests and sports competitions to encourage coexistence between owners and pets, foster care and respect for animals and their natural environment.
It is a joint effort of the Center for Animal Collection of Puerto Vallarta (Centro de Acopio and the PV Animal Association, with support from various departments of the Municipal Government of Ramón Guerrero Martínez, sponsoring companies and organizations committed to the welfare of animals such as Diamond Pet Food, Hotel Puerto de Luna and Plaza Caracol.
Activities begin Wednesday with the presentation of "Do Animals Have Rights?" given by PV Animals AC at 6:10 pm in the garden of Puerto de Luna hotel located on Avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio.
Following at 7:00 pm the Directorate of Environment and Ecology will address the topic "Rights of Wild Animals" along with the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection and Fire will demonstrate Search and Rescue techniques at about 7:45 pm. Admission is free however you are invited to donate a pet food package which will go to the Center for Animal Collection.
On Friday December 12, at 6:00 pm, there will be an interactive discussion of "Terra Exotic" to learn more about the wild animals in Los Parajos Park located at the junction of Golondrina and Petirrojo streets in the colony of Los Sauces. This will be followed Christmas Pet Costume Contest. The cost of registration is a bundle of pet food.
The program continues on Saturday, December 13 with the presentation of "The Birds of Puerto Vallarta" which will be given by the Birds of Paradise group at 4:00 pm at Plaza Caracol. At 5:00 pm, the Feline Beauty Contest will be held which was organized by Angelicat. Registration for this contest is the delivery of food or cat litter.
The activities culminate on December 14 with the Recreational Animal Rights Competition at the Parota Park, Hotel Puerto de Luna, in which owners and dogs give every effort to conquer the first place. There will be three categories according to the size of the pet: small, medium and large; registration will cost 100 pesos per person.
Also, at 11:00 the Department of Environment and Ecology will offer environmental education activities and at 11:30 am the winner of children's drawing contest will be awarded, in which students from various schools competed.
