Peregrinaciones are the 12 days and nights, December 1-12, processions from various groups as the boy scouts, non-profits, restaurants, hotels, local corporations as electricity, gas and internet.

The schedule is available at the Puerto Vallarta Visitors Office in the Town Square across the street from the church. The sheet covers 3 days at a time so must go in and get the latest copy. Today's covered the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of December. There are long breaks and when a mass is held, everything is stopped since the processions enter the church one by one and are greeted by the priest.

You can also check online for the full detailed schedule on Facebook.

You do not have to be Catholic, or for that matter religious in the least, to enjoy this yearly event. The culture of our adopted country is remarkable: the flowers, presents, songs, candles, finest dresses, portraits of Mexico's apparition of Mother Mary and earnest fervor.

In the plaza, there are many vendors supplying traditional Mexican foods at low prices. Tamales are my favorite and the area sports at least 6 vendors and I have picked my favorite. They are on Mexican time, so many had not yet set up and those that did had few foods or places to sit and eat. Give them time.

The evenings are more crowded and I describe the 12 days as a crescendo with the 12th being the actual day of the patron saint Guadalupe is honored and the place is packed.

Stay as long or short as you wish, but pick up some tasty food and bring your camera.
