With the aim of promoting the sport of recreational fishing and traditions of this tourist destination, the Director of Social Development, Arturo Davalos Peña, attended the weigh-in and awards presentation for the seventh "Playa Los Muertos" fishing tournament on behalf of the mayor, Ramon Guerrero Martinez.
This year, 75 boats participated with professional and amateur fishermen from around Banderas Bay and included guests from Colima, Michoacan and other states.
The anglers hit the seas early on November 8 to compete for the prize winning marlin, tuna, dorado (mahi mahi) and sailfish.
The Mismaloya team won the grand prize for a 12 kg (around 26 lb) dorado and walked away with a plasma TV and many other awards presented by Arturo Davalos.
The organizing committee headed by José Juan Santana, Victor Ramos, Guillermo Casarrubias and Gilberto Uribe thanked the city government for all their support.
When the competing boats returned to Los Muertos Pier for the weigh-in and the huge crowds on the beach, the fish were then donated, cooked and shared with over 700 locals and visitors.
Accompanying the fish feast was an evening filled with mariachi music and pre-Hispanic dances in celebration of the tradition of this great tournament in Old Town Puerto Vallarta.
