There Are Now Nine Beach Clean-Up Crews in the Riviera Nayarit

It’s been four months since the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) began to coordinate the beach cleanup efforts that had already sprung up in the different communities; there are now nine different groups attached to the project.

This month, the Isla de Mexcaltitlán, San Pancho, Guayabitos and Los Ayala joined Bucerías, Punta de Mita, La Peñita de Jaltemba and Platanitos; Nuevo Vallarta is separate from the group since the hotels themselves are constantly working to keep the area’s beaches clean.

September is considered Mexico’s Mes de la Patria (Month of Our Nation), and Mexcaltitán is the cradle of Mexican heritage. This island, located in the municipality of Santiago Ixcuintla, is cleaning up the entire town looking to reclaim its title of Pueblo Mágico, or magical village.

Mexcaltitán is another icon of the Riviera Nayarit, part of the itinerary for FAM trips and always a tourist attraction for domestic and international visitors, thanks to the fact that it’s also known as the “Venice of Mexico.”

Guayabitos and Los Ayala joined in at the last minute for the cleanup program in August, coordinated by the Compostela Hotel and Motel Association. The volunteers came together to contribute to cleaning up the image of our beaches.

San Pancho, the Riviera Nayarit’s Culture Capital, is another town that’s joined the crews for this fourth cleanup. This community has been putting together cleanup teams for the rivers and the town itself. Now, however, they’ll be receiving the cleaning materials directly from the CVB - not only will they be cleaning along with the other communities, but this also serves to strengthen their efforts.

If you’re interested in more details on the projects including meeting dates and times, or if you’d like to suggest your community as a member of the Beach Cleanup Network of the Riviera Nayarit, please call 297-2516 ext. 108 and someone from the Riviera Nayarit CVB will be happy to help you.
