Mexican LCC Volaris has added another destination from its Mexico City (MEX) base.

It has begun operating three weekly flights using an A319 to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) on Mexico's western coast.

The route is already served by Aeromexico (38 weekly flights) and Interjet (14 weekly flights).

According to government statistics, almost 189,000 passengers flew between the two airports in 2011.

With just over 2.5 million passengers last year, Puerto Vallarta ranks as Mexico's seventh-busiest airport, though demand fell by 7.3% in 2011. International traffic represents over 70% of the airport's business.
