Chapulines, more commonly known as grasshoppers and a delicacy in Mexico, are a result of the collaboration between Executive Chef Philippe Piel and his team of talented Mexican chefs.
“Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita is home to three alfresco restaurants, offering guests distinct culinary creations peppered with an authentic taste of Mexico,” said resort General Manager John O’Sullivan. ”Ketsi, our traditional Mexican restaurant, celebrates the region’s local flavors and traditions, with dishes like chapulines to offer guests a true taste of Punta Mita.”
The chefs are using the authentic method of preparation, toasting them with a bit of oil on a comal (a clay cooking surface). After toasting, the chef seasons the grasshoppers with lime, salt, and garlic.
The finished product has a salty-spicy taste, which pairs perfectly with mezcal! The grasshoppers are also being served in a taco with salsa or with tortilla chips and guacamole.
Don’t knock it until you try it. Scientists have actually found that grasshoppers pack enough protein to rank with lean ground beef – and they have less fat per gram!
Guests at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita can enjoy the salty snack poolside at one of the resort’s two private beaches or as an appetizer at Ketsi.
