Epidemiological surveillance against the Ebola virus and Chikugunya in Puerto Vallarta International Airport and at the Marine Terminal or Port Administration (API) in this tourist destination was reinforced to prevent the entry of potential carriers of these infections, reported the Ministry of Health through Health Region VIII.

Particular attention is being paid to arriving passengers who have visited Africa in the case of Ebola and those who arrive from the Caribbean in the case of Chikugunya.
 
According to a statement from the health authorities, they are also providing guidance on the two diseases and their preventive measures for people who are planning to travel to African countries, Guinea, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone where there is an outbreak of the Ebola virus, or Caribbean countries where Chikugunya has been recorded.
 
In the case of Chikugunya, it is a virus that is spread by mosquitos of Aedes Aegypti dengue.
 
These medical modules diffuses if the traveler has visited those or neighboring countries affected by the virus within the last 21 days or have had contact with other travelers and have symptoms of fever, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain or redness. If you suffer any of these symptoms, you should go to the nearest health unit for medical care and report a history of travel.
 
It is important to note that Puerto Vallarta has no direct flights from Africa and has close communication with officials of the Federal Ministry of Health (SSA), which in turn communicates with experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), after an international health emergency declared by the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.
 
Almost two months ago, an alert from the Ministry of Health was issued for epidemiological surveillance units in regards to the possibility of transmission of the Chikugunya virus, especially in those regions endemic to the presence of dengue, at a meeting of the North Coast Network of Municipalities for Health where the recommendations were issued against the Chikugunya virus. Now the health alert has been expanded to include the Ebola virus.
