Atlanta’s Delta Air Lines, working to make Sea-Tac Airport a West Coast hub for its international flights, has added yet another international destination to its Sea-Tac repertoire.

The airline says it plans to start flying nonstop from Sea-Tac Airport to Puerto Vallarta in December. Only SeaTac-based Alaska Airlines now flies that route.

Delta will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route flying three times weekly between Sea-Tac and the Mexican resort city three times weekly starting December 20. Delta will reduce that frequency to once a week beginning January 12.

Delta’s international schedule from Sea-Tac now includes Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong in China, Seoul in Korea and Tokyo’s two airports in Japan. The airline also connects Sea-Tac nonstop with London, Amsterdam and Paris in Europe and Vancouver in Canada.

The Atlanta-based carrier is now Sea-Tac’s second biggest airline by passenger traffic following Alaska. In recent months, Delta has added dozens of flights to its Sea-Tac schedule, many of those in direct competition with Alaska with whom it has a code-sharing agreement.
