20th Anniversary Celebration of Municipal Folklore Group 'Xiutla' Vallarta Opina

The Municipal Folklore Dance Group Xiutla invites all of the Puerto Vallarta community to share in their 20 year anniversary celebration on July 26 and 27, 2014.

Prof. Enrique Barrios Limón, director of the group, expressed the joy of all the children and youth who are currently part of this company or were a part during these 20 years in reaching this significant date, "particularly for me it is something special because it was an arduous journey at times but we made it through the 20 years with success and pride for our accomplishments."

Barrios Limón’s passion for dance and his leadership has driven the dance group through sometimes difficult times since the 1994 inception.

The celebration will begin on July 26 with a "giving thanks" Mass at the Refugio Church and then later opening an exhibition of 50 art photographs in the inner corridors of City Hall. This exhibition was organized by the group and will continue for four days with free access to the population. There, they will also cut the anniversary cake to share with the 12 generations that have been a part of the group.

On Sunday, July 27, at one o'clock, the gala anniversary ceremony will be presented at Teatro Vallarta, to which all the Vallarta community is invited. Those attending the gala ceremony will enjoy regional dances prepared for the occasion including "La Tortuga y El Jabali" ("The Tortoise and the Boar") which is a first generation Xiutla dance from the state of Chiapas.

There will also be an Anniversary Waltz with the participation of some special guests and the presentation of a retrospective video of the group, the majestic interpretation of the bolero, rhythmic music called percussion and closing with a flourish of the traditional Jalisco dance.
