Snowball & Frosty looking for a furr-ever home!

Featured Felines

We think Snowball & Frosty are siblings, white with big blue eyes, though Frosty has a bit of flame-point in ears & tail.

They were discovered outside the shelter gates during a rainstorm, and were welcomed with food and a dry shelter.

The vet estimates they are five to six months old and have just been spayed & neutered and are ready for a new home.

We would love to see them adopted as a pair as they are so bonded.

Good Meows

It only took 850 emails, phone calls, facebook posts and text messages, but Cupcake is on her way to her furr-ever home in Calgary.

Muchas muchas gracias again to our special cat whisperer, Kerry Ward, his wife Danielle, Luz Wong, Livia, Dra. Eva at Sabuesos, Bailey in Calgary – and the anonymous WestJet travelers who cancelled their pet reservation at the last minute, freeing up a spot for Cupcake.

Have a wonderful life, little one!

Cupcake’s sister, Sugar, also WestJetted to Calgary the very next Friday!

Virtual Adoption

In the last newsletter we reported a record month for “Virtual” Adoptions, a great way to support the shelter and a special cat at the same time. So by popular demand…..we just added five new V.A. candidates to our website! May we introduce you to:

Dexter is mostly white with black spots and only about about 18 months old. It broke our hearts when he was passed over so many times for adoption and eventually was released to live in the gardens. But he seems happy and is still a friendly little guy!

Blaze is a rust colored tabby with amazing amber eyes who was found as a starving 6-week old kitty and we weren’t sure he would survive. He did, thanks to our vet Dra. Eva, but has never been able to overcome his fear of humans and will find his only Forever Home at the PuRR shelter.

Cooper, on the other hand, never met a human lap he didn’t feel comfortable in!! He has won many visitor’s hearts and is definitely a “Greeter” at the gate. We’re not sure of his origins but he has lived at the shelter for many years now, since before records were kept.

Buddy & Ulysses are also long-term shelter residents and thought to be some of the original cats rescued from the Isla Cuale when the shelter opened. Buddy is another “greeter” and always on the lookout for a little treat! He has unusual soft cream-colored fur. Ulysses is a very handsome Siamese with long hair and vivid blue eyes……it’s a shame he is so feral and not inclined to sit and pose for photos. But all are deserving of a safe place to live out their lives and that is part of our MISSION at PuRR Project.

Shelter Update

We’ve had over 20 inches of rain so far this summer but no major winds……fingers crossed!

It was just about this time last July when a freak windstorm blew down a couple of the large Tabachin trees and took out the back fence and put a hole in the roof of the bodega! We had to do major pruning to prevent other trees possibly falling onto the main casita…..which left the clinic un-shaded and super hot in the summer sun. Muchas Gracias to Frank Glinsky, Eric Grossman & Marilyn Khan who went to Home Depot last week, bought insulating panels and installed them in the clinic ceiling!! We can again use this space to house kittens & cats needing special attention.

With over 13 cats & kittens dumped over the fence last week alone, we are in dire straits for space and for the need to spay/neuter over two dozen in the nursery! Standard procedure is to quarantine for 2 weeks while we test for FIV/Leukemia, de-flea, de-worm & treat any illness. Then we have to vaccinate & spay/neuter and try to get them out for adoption while they are cute little kitties! Not an easy task when we only have our vet at the shelter one afternoon and one morning a week. A big “Thank You” to PEACE who will help with some of the spay/neuter at their clinics this month!!
