Learn to surf a SUP or surfboard at the beautiful Washington Coast with Sayulita based pro surfer Geovanni Perez and Rob Casey, owner of Salmon Bay Paddle and author of Stand Up Paddling Flat Water to Surf and Rivers.
The Surf Camp will take place on July 12 & 13, 2014.
In two days you'll learn surf and weather forcasting, how to read waves, determine which beach is best for your skill level, and how to catch and successfully ride waves. Surfing takes time to master and maxiumum water time will help you get there. All of our students catch waves on their first day.
While you're surfing, your family can enjoy great easy hikes to Shi Shi Beach in Olympic National Park a few miles south of our beach. The beach in front of the campground is extensive and is great for relaxing.
Surf Camp Schedule for Hobuck Beach / Neah Bay:
Day 1, Saturday, July 12 - Learn..
• About surfing equipment, clothing and buying gear.
• Which waves are ideal for you, where to surf, hazards to avoid, safety and surfer's etiquette.
• Wave and weather forecasts.
• How to paddle out over waves.
• Directional control in surf.
• How to look for, choose and catch waves successfully.
• Traditional Surfers – Learn how to time waves, pop up and turn on the wave. Gear selection and clothing.
• Free Surf with light instruction last few hours of the day.
Evening – Hike to the most NW point Cape Flattery to see spectacular views of the Pacific coast or paddle the calm scenic Sooes River, a nearby coastal estuary. Enjoy a campfire with great views of seastacks and the beach.
Day 2, Sunday, July 13
• Review techniques from on Day 1.
• Refine wave choosing skills.
• Pivot and cross bow turns in surf.
• Continue to refine directional control on waves.
• Free surf with light instruction end of day.
Also Receive:
• SUP Book: Signed copy of Rob's SUP book, "Stand Up Paddling Flat Water to Surf and Rivers".
• Photos/Videos: Photos and videos of your class.
• Class Review/Summary - Get a summary of the camp and tips on improving your technique. We can also help you find surfing gear.
Who Should Go? Experienced stand up paddlers and beginning surfers. Must be able to swim.
We Provide with Cost : All gear. Stable paddle board, paddle, leash, wetsuit, booties, gloves.
Where is Hobuck? NW corner of the USA by the pictureque fishing Makah town of Neah Bay. Driving time from Seattle 5 hours (with ferry). Also visit Cape Flattery and Shi Shi Beach.
New to SUP? We'll cover basic paddling techniques during the first day or take our SUP Sampler or Stand Up Paddling Basics prior to the camp.
