'Opportunities' Program Gives Hope to Poor Families in Puerto Vallarta Team Angels/Gerardo Gonzalez - Vallarta Opina

Municipal President, Ramon Guerrero Martinez, accompanied by the Delegate of the Secretariat of Social Development Jalisco, Gloria Judith Rojas Maldonado, announced the transition of the present Food Support Program (Programa de Apoyo Alimentario - PAL) to the Opportunities for Human Development Program (Programa de Desarrollo Humano Oportunidades) to benefit 675 families in Puerto Vallarta.

With the change of these families to the Oportunidades Program, they will have the opportunity to receive more support such as scholarships for children and young people, monetary support for families with children from 0 to 9 years, supplements, savings fund for young people who conclude their upper middle education, among others.

The Mayor thanked the Delegate for the commitment that she has with Puerto Vallarta, "because during the months that we have collaborated with her, our city has been the big winner."

He added that today the history of hundreds of families is being changed since female heads of households, children and students will receive various supports that will enable them to succeed. "These are the synergies that allow Governments to work together with the families of Puerto Vallarta and with this teamwork we can together combat poverty and backwardness."

Meanwhile, Rojas Maldonado noted that in Jalisco of the 140 thousand men and women who had a lack of food, there are already more than 52 percent who are eating better, "and with all the programs of social infrastructure that we have, Vallarta as a municipality is included in the crusade against hunger and we will continue working and helping this city."

She emphasized that there has never before been such a coordinated effort with the Federal, State and Municipal Governments, "and today we have these social programs thanks to the coordination that we have had with Vallarta that reaches all corners, all neighborhoods and all of you."

On the part of the beneficiaries of the Sancudo community, Mrs. María Alma Abundio García thanked each of the authorities for their presence at a meeting so important to them, "and for providing a quality program of opportunities for us including scholarships for our children, nutritional support, electricity, gas, among other benefits."
