Best Friends Wall Tile

There will be a Tile-Painting Party on Friday, June 6, at 6:00 p.m. at Fireworks (Los Mercados, Aquilles Serdan #263, Old Town).

For a very few pesos, you can design and paint a tile, enjoy a chat with fellow animal lovers……and have a glass of wine!

Space is limited so contact Marilyn Khan at exkhan@usfamily.net if you plan to attend. If you wish, your tile can be included in the BEST FRIENDS WALL, a new feature at the PuRR Project Shelter.

The idea came from a couple of beautiful mosaic-filled commemorative walls being done around Puerto Vallarta the last few years. A group of our local PuRR volunteers have been meeting each week at Fireworks creating custom tiles for a wall to commemorate memorable animal friends in our lives.

Of course there are lots of kitty tiles but we have also painted tiles for dogs, a turtle, miniature burros and even a tail-less crocodile! If you are not feeling your inner Picasso, you can send a photo of your pet and we’ll have it painted for you! Just contact Marilyn for details. Meow!

Achilles says Hola!

I’m not sure if Achilles was named after the Greek warrior hero of the Trojan War or after the street in Old Town Vallarta where he was found (Aquilles Surdan) but he has become one of the favorite kitties at the shelter.

The poor fella’ was limping because someone had tied a string around the toes of one paw which had to be removed by our vet.

He will have a slight deformity on that paw but otherwise he’s just fine now and our own special little “hero”!

Shelter Update

The Spring-Cleaning Crew take a break!

It’s Spring in Puerto Vallarta and the volunteers decided it was time to do some Spring Cleaning of the shelter grounds before it gets any hotter!

A group met early Monday morning to carpool out….armed with cleaning supplies, paint & power washer!

In anticipation of “kitten season,” the nursery was thoroughly disinfected & power washed and now ready for all the little ones who have been in the clinic.

The front porch of the main house was also washed and then painted for the first time in ages! Another crew worked on the yard and reorganizing the bodega.

And finally, three new donated palms were planted in the yard. THANKS to Erin, Marilyn, Brenda, George, Livia, Don Eduardo and Bama for all the hard work!!!

Good News

Armani/Yaluc at home in Lake Chapala

The phrase “it takes a village” comes to mind with this story of a beautiful PuRR cat who needed a new home when his adoptive mom had to leave Vallarta for a medical emergency. She reached out to local media for help with no luck.

Then Kelly Grier of Lake Chapala happened to contact Carol at PVAngels, searching for a Ragdoll kitty to adopt.

PVAngels contacted PuRR and we put the two ladies together and within a week, Armani was in his new home!

Turns out Armani is a Chocolate Lynx Point Ragdoll……who knew??

He has a new name Yaluc (Toltec Indian God of Lightning) and loves his new gardens, complete with Koi pond, and sisters Maya & Tonchi.

And by coincidence, Yaluc’s sister Zsa Zsa is our May Calendar Girl this month!!! And his brother, Don Diego, was the Cover Boy on our 2013 calendar! Yaluc hopes to follow in their footsteps and has already submitted photos for the 2015 calendar.

Big thanks for Costco donation!

A COSTCO Executive card accumulates points that you can spend at the end of a year.

One of our volunteers used her points last month to buy this cart full of supplies for the ranch…..about $4,000 pesos worth of food, litter and cleaning supplies.

What a great idea for donating!!!

This gives you an idea of what we spend each week……just at COSTCO! That does not include the Royal Canin Kitten Food (which is now 600 pesos a bag), medicines, vet costs, spay/neuter, utilities, caretaker salary, repairs, etc. On average, we spend around 44,000 pesos a month to maintain the shelter.

So a big “Thank You” to our supporters who make it possible.
