Two lucky adult PuRR cats were sponsored in March and now have Virtual Mommies!!

Cherri Gilmore is a volunteer at the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, CA. who has never visited our shelter but receives our newsletter and decided that Snowball would be the perfect cat for her to sponsor.

This handsome older fella’ likes to hang out in the shade on the roof of the casita. He’s the only one of the cats on our VA list that had never been chosen……so THANKS, Cherri!!! (Debbie Broback is another HSTT volunteer who recently sponsored Tecate as a birthday present for her sister……great idea!)

Maggy Deike arranged to visit the shelter so she could personally choose her cat to Virtually Adopt. There were many who wanted lap time, but she eventually picked sweet Brisa.

Charo’s Journey in her Own Words

On April 5th I boarded an Alaska Airlines flight for San Diego to begin the next phase of my life with my new family in Poway, California. I want to thank all of my friends at the Purr Project who assisted me in my journey from discarded kitten to family cat in my Forever Home. First, a really big thank you goes to my guardian angel, Miriam Wong, who found me in the garbage and saved my life. I want to thank all the volunteers at PuRR who provided me with foster care and visited me at the ranch, who cuddled me, comforted me, played with me, socialized me and honed my natural charisma, an important skill that I would use later when the time was right.

A super big Thank You goes to Eric and Livia for driving Dawn, Bill and Brian to the ranch and giving them a tour. When I saw them I knew the moment was NOW. I turned on my charm and marched straight into their hearts. They were powerless to resist. They didn’t choose me…..I chose them.

Thanks also goes to Bama for babysitting me during my last few days in PV and to Celia for driving my family to pick me up and take me to the airport. Also thank you to all the volunteers who got my immigration papers and medical records in order so I would be ready for my trip. Thank you to all of you that I didn’t mention by name for your fundraising to support us at the ranch. We love you!

I’m so excited that I’m now living in my forever home with a big yard to play in and a family that loves me. Even little kittens like me have big dreams. Thanks to all of you, my dream came true! (My next dream is to be a PuRR Calendar Girl!!!)

Claude’s Story

The Boca kids salute those who donated to Claude's surgery

Last month we featured a story on Claude, his rescue and surgery for a badly broken leg. We are happy to report that his pin was removed and he has completely recovered from the ordeal while being fostered by a PuRR volunteer. There have been a few inquiries about the adoption of this kitty but nothing firm as of this writing. Fingers crossed that he will soon find a loving Forever Home!! PuRR volunteers trekked out to Boca de Tomatlan to thank the children who rescued him and presented them with T-shirts & caps as our youngest PuRR volunteers.

We were also asked to participate in a meeting with the local school kids to talk about local rescue groups and what they do. PuRR vet Dr. Eva & biologist Carolina Reyes took the opportunity to educate them about local wildlife and the need to care for wounded animals……bringing along a rescued turtle with a fractured shell and a python for “show & tell”. The youngsters were fascinated and we hope to continue to work with them and their school.

Tommy Terrific at the PuRR shelter

Tommy was already about 7 mo. old when he was rescued by Gretchen DeWitt at a PEACE Spay/Neuter Clinic and came to live at the PuRR Shelter.

He’s a bit older than most of the kittens we take to the adoption venues, but he was so unusual looking and such a sweetheart that we decided to give him a chance at a real home.

We call him a “Tabbyssinian” because of his unusual markings.

EVERYONE who see him stops to comment, and he’s had a lot of interest, but so far, no offers of adoption! For more info, contact Linda at adopt@purrproject.com.

Farewell Kitty Bingo!!

Our last official Kitty Bingo of the season was on April 2nd and it was way too much fun!!

Halftime entertainment from the Academia de Danza Moorea had everyone swaying their hips (and all the waiters from nearby restaurants coming over to check the action!!!)

A heartfelt THANKS to our supporters! We are really going to miss seeing all the “regulars” and hope to see you all again when we resume the games in November. In the meantime, we have a couple of Mexican Loteria games planned during the summer……stay tuned for date & location!
