The highway construction of the Jala-Bahía de Banderas, more commonly known as the "short route," between Guadalajara and Vallarta-Nayarit is scheduled to be completed in late 2016.

Director of the Centro SCT in Nayarit, Jesús Miramontes Lara, reported that the amount of investment and the complexity of the development of this project, which is in the mountains, continues to progress.

He continued that since they are working hand in hand with INAH, Semarnat, Profepa, they have made significant progress since the first installment of the Jala-Compostela section and "hopefully we can have a conclusion to this in December 2014."

Federal officials warned that although the issue of right of way is always complicated, they have full confidence that it will not slow down this road project.

"For example, right now they are carrying out the necessary studies by the INAH, we are releasing partial installments thereof that we are leveraging to further develop the construction and, without contingencies, we are hopeful to conclude the project as scheduled."

Estimates by the Ministry of Communications and Transport suggest that once operational, the "short route" will join Guadalajara and Vallarta-Nayarit in making it only about a three hour drive.
