2013 Adoptions Recap

It seemed like an endless stream of kittens through the shelter last year!!

The in-take total was actually 159 since last January, including a few nursing mothers who are now living at the shelter. So far this year, we have found Forever Homes for 117 of the lucky ones.

Our Adoption Booth at Plaza Marina accounted for over half of those adoptions and we wish to say a heartfelt “Thank You” to volunteers Livia, Marilyn & George who faithfully man that post on Fridays from 11 – 2.

Twelve kitties flew to new homes in the USA or Canada this year! Our newest location at Walmart Nuevo Vallarta on Thursday from noon-2 has been disappointing with only 4 adoptions, but we are hoping for more success as people know to look for us there.

All kittens spend at least 2 weeks in our Clinic where they are tested for FIV/Leukemia, dewormed and monitored until they are deemed to be healthy enough to be moved to the Nursery. They will stay there until old enough to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated and then move on to Acclimation. Now they are ready to meet the outside world and hopefully spend the rest of their lives in a loving home. For more information on adoptions, click here.

Kitty Bingo with Dueling Drag Divas

Join us on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 5:00 pm for the next opportunity to shout “Meow” and win one of our great prizes, like dinner certificates to some of the most popular restaurants in town!

And this one should be lots of fun with The Dueling Drag Divas (ChiChi Rones & Joanna) providing half-time entertainment with comedic impressions of your favorite singers. Their shows at ACT II have been sell-outs!!

Kitty Bingo at Margarita Grill has been drawing a good crowd but we’ve got LOTS of room for more players, so grab a friend and come on down.

It’s only 100 pesos to play and there is also a multiple-pull 50/50 raffle with even more prizes!

You’ll find Margarita Grill on the corner of Basilio Badillo and Pino Suarez in Old Town…lots of covered parking nearby.

Our favorite fundraiser is coming up…..an elegant Brunch and Fashion Show…..at Daiquiri Dick’s on Los Muertos Beach.

Beautiful original fashions designed by Selene Soucy and Chak-Ra will be enhanced by jewelry from Angela Lovett Designs and Yesa Jewelry.

Tickets are only 250 pesos in advance and include 2 Mimosas and a 3-course brunch.

The talented Jorge Acosta will entertain and of course a Raffle for fabulous prizes!!

Brunch starts at 10:30 and the Show at 11:00. Tickets may be purchased at Daiquiri Dicks, the PuRR Booth at the Paradise Community Center Market on Saturdays, Kitty Bingo on the 22nd or by e-mailing Marilyn Khan at exkhan@usfamily.net.

Adoption News

Two more lucky PuRR kitties became international travelers in December.

Franklin Wirtz had written to say he and his extended family would be in Puerto Vallarta for the holidays and they were thinking of adopting a kitty here.

Plans were made for them to meet some candidates at the Paradise Community Center Market on a Saturday. After a lot of petting and a little conversation, it was decided that both Sophia and brother Finn would go home with new kitties!!! Yea!!

Sweet Shadow and feisty Electra are now at home in Seattle and learning to Meow in English.

Good Meows!

We have our new washing machine for the shelter!!

After the last newsletter, we received a message from Lee & Heidi Mathias of Napa, CA, that they would be arriving in Puerto Vallarta on January 2nd aboard the cruise ship Norwegian Star. If someone could meet them at the dock, they would be willing to go with us to buy the new washer……and that’s exactly what happened.

It was a great start to the new year and we are truly grateful for this donation. Now we just need to raise money for the dryer……and a new wheelbarrow!

Not so good meows!

The new 16% tax in Mexico on pet food and medicines as of January 1st will have a big negative impact on our budget this coming year.

Another concern is the fact that many people who can barely afford to feed their pets now may be forced to put them on the street to fend for themselves. Bad news for all the animal shelters and pet parents.

Enjoying the Sunset & Luau

Thanks to all who attended our first Pig Roast Luau!!

It was a beautiful evening on the beach and the spectacular sunset was a perfect backdrop.

The Sea Monkey staff served drinks and the chef presented a mouth-watering array of good food on the buffet table.

In addition to the 50/50 raffle winner, guests won other prizes including jewelry, dinner certificates and a Botanical Garden membership.

A BIG Thank You to Sea Monkey owner Troy for donating the food, drinks and his beach!! It was so popular, we plan to do a similar BBQ event in March…..watch for more news on when and where!

Featured Feline: Stephano

Stephano is a classic Tuxedo (black & white) kitty who we think is about 12 weeks old.

He was spotted on New Year’s Eve being attacked by a dog and rescued by a part-time local resident.

He has now been tested, vaccinated and neutered and is ready to find his Forever Home at one of our Adoption locations.

He likes to cuddle and to have his chin scratched and will make a great kitty companion for some lucky person. Meow!
